Senior Team

Nick Ivanoff, PE, President and CEO
Nick Ivanoff joined the firm in 1995. As President and Chief Executive Officer, he has technical, marketing, administrative and financial responsibility for company operations worldwide. Nick graduated from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute with a BSCE and an MS in Traffic Engineering and Transportation Engineering. He is a registered professional engineer and professional planner with over 35 years experience. He serves as Principal-in-Charge or Management/Technical Adviser for some of the firm's larger, more complex projects, including the Central Artery in Boston and our on-going work at Dulles International Airport. His commitment to quality design and owner satisfaction is evidenced by his hands-on approach to major projects.

Christopher Gagnon, PE, Senior Vice President, Transportation
Chris Gagnon joined Ammann & Whitney in 1979 upon graduation from the Stevens Institute of Technology with a BS in Structural Engineering. As Senior Vice President, he manages the firm’s Long Span Bridge Division. Chris has been involved in the design and rehabilitation of renowned worldwide structures including the Oakland Bay Bridge and Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco; the RFK (Triborough), George Washington and Verrazano-Narrows Bridges in New York City; the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge in Japan and the Bridge of the Americas in Panama. Chris co-authored Cable Corrosion in Bridges and Other Structures for ASCE Press.
Bal Cherwoo, PE, Senior Vice President, Facilities
Bal Cherwoo joined the firm in 1976. As Senior Vice President, he manages the firm’s Facilities Division. Bal holds a BS in Civil Engineering from Jadavpur University and a Masters degree in Structural Engineering from the Polytechnic University of New York. He has worked with many nationally renowned architects on the planning and design of aviation projects including the new Jet Blue Terminal at JFK in New York City, and numerous projects at Dulles International Airport in DC. Bal is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He is a member of the Structural Engineering Institute, American Concrete Institute and Airports Council International. As a member of ACI Committee 370, he participated in the development of a special publication for Blast Resistant Design for Reinforced Concrete Structures.
Charles W. Leute, PE, Chief Operating Officer, Group Vice President, Construction Services
Charlie Leute joined the firm in 1995. As Chief Operating Officer, he conducts project reviews from both a technical quality and financial performance perspective and monitors project management. Charlie holds a BSCE from City College of New York. He is a registered professional engineer and a member of Construction Management Association of America. Charlie has 40 years experience encompassing design and construction management of bridges, highways and various other transportation related infrastructure. He has extensive construction experience both as a resident engineer on civil/highway projects and as a construction support engineer working with construction and design forces to resolve construction problems.
Sam Knaster, PE, Senior Vice President, Transportation
Sam Knaster joined the firm in 1985. As Senior Vice President, he manages the firm’s Transportation Division. Sam holds a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Drexel University and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Belarusian State University of Transport. A licensed Professional Engineer, his project experience includes project management and design of new, rehabilitation and replacement of bridge and highway/roadway projects, including in-depth inspection, load ratings, fatigue and seismic evaluations, preliminary and final plans, environmental permitting, the preparation of traffic control alternatives and coordination with various stakeholders.
